VanStar is a vanpool program that serves 14 counties in Middle Tennessee, including Wilson, Williamson, and Rutherford counties. The vanpool program provides both employers and employees an alternative solution to transportation issues that plague Middle-Tennessee commuters.
Instead of commuting in their own personal vehicle, VanStar participants are able to travel to work with 7 to 13 other participants in the vanpool commute van taking between 6 to 12 individuals’ cars off the road. Participants are matched up with other commuters to ensure a convenient and efficient route. Instead of dealing with traffic induced stress and anxiety, participants enjoy taking naps on their way to work and enjoying the company of the other vanpoolers.

In 2018, the 692 VanStar participants saved an estimated 2 million dollars in cumulative fuel, maintenance and wear and tear on their personal car. In addition to the money saved, the program also produced the following results in 2018:
- Vehicle miles reduced: 9,078,820
- Vehicle Trips Reduced: 212,635
- Total Pollution Reduced (in tons): 3,703
- NOx Reduced (lbs): 45,224
- VOC Reduced (lbs): 36,820
- CO2 reduced emission (tons): 3,521
Van Star is recognized by the Federal Transit Administration as an effective commute transit alternative.
