Congressman Paul Gosar (R-AZ) has proposed an amendment to the FY 2020 DOE budget that would eliminate funding for the Clean Cities program. We need your help to urge Congress to reject this proposed amendment when it comes to a vote on the House floor next week so that Congress does not defund Clean Cities.
There are three easy ways you can help protect funding for the Clean Cities program next year. First, click here to sign on to the clean transportation industry letter urging House members to oppose the Gosar amendment. The deadline for adding your name to the letter is COB on Friday, June 14th.
Second, please contact your House members directly by phone and email. Here are some brief talking points you can use with your House members:
- The Clean Cities program is the DOE’s only initiative focused on the deployment of cleaner fuels, advanced technology vehicles, and alternative refueling infrastructure
- Since 1993, the nation’s 90 Clean Cities Coalitions and their 15,000 stakeholders have played a leading role in displacing petroleum consumption, improving air quality, and enhancing energy security.
- The program leverages an additional $10 in public and private investment for every federal dollar spent; these funds are used in communities across America to help local fleets transition to cleaner fuels and vehicles, and to develop new refueling stations.
- The program has enjoyed 25 years of bipartisan support; we urge you to demonstrate that support by opposing the Gosar amendment.
Third – please share this post with your colleagues and contacts via social media or e-mail, and urge them to contact their members of the House of Representatives as well, speaking out against the amendment to defund Clean Cities.
