The Future of Transportation Day planned for Wisconsin state capitol

MADISON, WISCONSIN —Wisconsin Clean Cities and RENEW Wisconsin are partnering to co-host The Future of Transportation Day at the Wisconsin State Capitol September 25.

The Future of Transportation Day is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Wisconsin State Capitol First Floor Rotunda at 2 East Main St. in Madison. A ride and drive will take place on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard directly outside of the capitol building from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as well.

“We’re excited about bringing our members and partners together to share with our elected officials and the general public all that sustainable transportation is already achieving in the state of Wisconsin as well as what is possible with increased adoption and implementation,” Wisconsin Clean Cities Executive Director Lorrie Lisek said. “Our goal is to increase education and awareness while connecting people to the tools they need to embrace sustainable transportation options.”

Industry experts in the public, private and nonprofit sectors will be on-hand at booths in the first floor rotunda to share information about how sustainable, domestic transportation fuels and vehicles are driving Wisconsin’s economy, strengthening national energy security, improving air quality and supporting the overall quality of life throughout Wisconsin.

Scheduled exhibitors include Alliant Energy, ANGI, the City of Madison, Clean Wisconsin, CMD Corp., Greenlots, Kwik Trip, Madison Gas and Electric, the Wisconsin Office of Energy Innovation, RENEW Wisconsin, the University of Wisconsin-Madison,Wisconsin BioFuels Association, Wisconsin Clean Cities, Wisconsin Conservative Energy Forum and WPPI Energy.

From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., participants will also have the opportunity to get behind the wheel of electric and alternative fuel vehicles during the ride and drive on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to experience their multiple benefits. Scheduled vehicles include Audi e-trons courtesy of Zimbrick Automotive, electric motorcycles courtesy of Charging Cycles, BCycle electric bicycles, the BMW i3 and MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 plug-in hybrid courtesy of BMW of Madison, the Chrysler Pacifica and Chevy Bolt courtesy of Alliant Energy, a propane-fueled police squad courtesy of the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department, a natural gas vehicle courtesy of the Dane County Department of Public Works-Waste & Renewables, an electric vehicle courtesy of the City of Madison and a Tesla Model 3 courtesy of GTG Solar.

Representatives Amanda Stuck, D-Appleton, and Adam Neylon, R-Pewaukee — both of whom are members of the bipartisan Futures Caucus — are scheduled to speak at noon in the first floor rotunda as well.

“The transportation industry is quickly being transformed to use clean, renewable energy,” said Jane McCurry, program manager for RENEW Wisconsin. “The Future of Transportation Day is being held during Clean Energy Week, where across the country advocates are celebrating clean energy advancements. We are excited to join that celebration and set the stage for Wisconsin to continue making clean transportation progress in the coming years.”
