Valley of the Sun Clean Cities hires new executive director

Don Covert has joined the Valley of the Sun Clean Cities Coalition in Phoenix, Arizona as a co-coordinator beside Paris Irvin.

Covert earned his B.S Degree in Energy Engineering from the University of Arizona in 1987. Upon graduation, he worked for short time with Tucson Electric Power performing commercial and industrial energy audits, then in 1988, he joined Southwest Gas Corporation as an Industrial Gas Engineer in the Tucson sales & marketing department.

In 1990, Don transferred to Southwest Gas Corporation’s Phoenix sales & marketing department promoting innovative & efficient natural gas technologies to Southwest’s largest commercial & industrial customers. Don is a Certified Energy Manager recognized by the Association of Energy Engineers. Don was elected to the Board of the Valley of the Sun Clean Cities Coalition (VSCCC) and recently approved to become the organization’s Executive Director. Don assumed this role after his recent retirement from Southwest Gas Corporation after a career of 31 years. 

Don has been married 37 years to his “High School” sweetheart, Erin.  They have 3 daughters and 3 grandchildren, 2 girls & 1 boy. He and his wife both enjoy spending time with their growing family. Don is an avid off-road dirt biker who enjoys trail riding throughout Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico.  Don also enjoys volunteering with the Tonto Recreation Alliance helping to preserve, manage and enhance off-roading recreation on Arizona’s Tonto National Forest.
